There are quite a few “flash-card” apps for learning basic math facts available. Their problem is that, although they are generally okay, they do not provide useful data on HOW WELL a student is progressing and when they have learned “WELL ENOUGH.” KnowPower’s unique design does provide that information, so a teacher or parent can clearly see a students progress toward the goal of MASTERING basic math facts. This app tells not only how accurate a student is, but it also shows how quickly a student provides correct answers. These two measures together are critical in determining how well a child has learned.
A student that is slow in providing answers, even though they may be accurate, has not yet mastered math facts. That student may still be counting on fingers or using some other crutch. Doing so means they may never develop mastery of facts. Mastery means that correct answers should come at a rate of 20 or more per minute and at high percentage correct, near 90%. With these two measures, rate and accuracy, a parent or teacher has they information they need to be sure a student has mastered math facts. There seems to be no other program that measures a student’s performance quite this way.
